Door-to-door management of oversized project cargo from Chennai, India to Sohar, Oman — ocean freight, cargo engineering, customs coordination, and specialized load-out at origin and destination.
Project Overview
SCL was entrusted with a project cargo movement that demanded more than a standard booking: 3 units (10 packages) of breakbulk cargo, close to 32 MT, built outside conventional container and flat-rack limits. A shipment like this isn’t quoted off a rate sheet — it’s engineered from the first survey to the final discharge.
The Challenge
Out-of-gauge cargo leaves no room for approximation. Every stage — stowage planning, lashing design, load-out sequencing — has to be built around the cargo itself. The margin for error is thin, and the cost of getting it wrong shows up as damaged cargo, a missed vessel slot, or a client’s own project timeline thrown off course.
SCL’s Solution
Our project team ran a full cargo engineering exercise before a single booking was confirmed — validating stowage feasibility, securing OOG-rated handling equipment, and locking in a vessel plan built specifically around this cargo’s profile. On the ground in Sohar, close coordination with our WCA Projects network partners meant customs and discharge arrangements were finalized well ahead of the vessel’s arrival.
The result: no idle time at port, no last-minute scrambling, complete visibility for the client from start to finish.
